We did a lot of brainstorming in the design of this piece, starting off with Denis’ proposal to create a large owl. Lesley came up with the concept of the Owl that brings winter, reminiscent of our ski days up north, when we would see the snowy owls on the fence posts at minus 30. Denis came up with a great model, and Carl took right to the idea of creating a Quebecois style village, complete with waterwheel. Simone and Carl also carved close to 100 individual snowflakes, which we stored in boxes until the final night, when the full cascade was installed.
The weather was quite warm during the sunny days, so we left the entire south side alone until the last day, using it to shield the rest of the piece. That year we won 2 out of the 4 awards, First Prize, and Artists Choice, and were once again treated to fine massages by our host, Paul Stefanaci.
